Do you ever get the feeling we’re part of a bigger process?

I know I’ve brought it up before, but assume you were a giant scientist looking at the earth through a giant microscope. You’d see little glowing buildings with small little cells flowing between them and even smaller little cells going in and out of those flowing cells. Cars, planes, trains, buildings, machines, humans. So what if we built them or have a way of describing if things are “living” or not? To the giant scientist peering through a microscope, the whole planet would be glowing and crawling with a giant variety of “living” things. Are humans around to develop all this dynamic infrastructure? Is it a side product or the purpose?

Maybe the purpose of life is to live in a nice house?

I’m starting to think that I would be perfectly content in life if I lived in a wonderful home. I’d spend my days reading books and walking in the back yard and generally feeling exhilarated. The sun would always shine (metaphorically).

On a side note, in the last sentence above, should the period be placed before or after the parenthesis?

So live in a nice house and understand grammar. That’s the goal.

A Great Lesson In Geopolitics

I’m currently reading a book by think tanker George Friedman called The Next 100 Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century. The author tries to predict what will happen in the 21st century from a geopolitical perspective. Most of the predictions won’t happen but the great part is, in teaching you what will happen he must teach you what has happened and how things work geopolitically. It’s fascinating.

Also, in contrast to every book I’ve read recently which predicts America is a few years/months away from total demise, Friedman believes America will be an even stronger superpower in the coming century. We have the infrastructure , the geographical advantage, and most importantly, an incredibly powerful Navy.
